How did you originally get invited to Google+?

Being one of the original Pilots from Google’s CR-48 Chrome Operating System Pilot program, I received an invite from a fellow-pilot. It still took me a couple days to actually get in because Google had a stop on the memberships at that time. But, I kept checking, and one day I read that Google+ was then “open” for joining, and I quickly used my invite and joined Google+. I have never read about male/female statistics until I found your site here, but I had a feeling from just what I was seeing as I cruised Google+, that there were more males than females! Wonder what the reason is? More men originally invited perhaps?

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I am a fairly active user of Facebook and Twitter. They are definitely “different” than Google+. The vibes are way different on Google+! One benefit I feel I am getting from using Google+ is being more exposed to individuals who are very tech-savvy, way more than I am. I am learning much from these people on Google+.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

Being on disability right now and not working a full-time job, I have more free time than I used to have to pursue my internet interests. It has been a little difficult for me to fit Google+ in with my commitments to my Facebook and Twitter friends. But, I commit myself to check in on Google+ at least once per day, and I always read my Google+ email. I still don’t have any friends on Google+ who I “really” know, although I have sent out many invites. It is a little hard using Google+ and not really “knowing” the people in most of my circles. But, I enjoy meeting new people and I am trying to reach out and make new “cyber-friends”!

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

!I am wondering if many people on Google+ are in my shoes as far as not having many friends in their circles who they really don’t know. Am I a minority here or is this the majority? I wish I could get some people to join who I actually “know” and are part of their lives. It has been difficult to get my Facebook friends interested in joining a new social site; they either don’t have the time or are just uninterested!

Where can I find more information about this fabulous woman?

I am a single mom and a “young” gramma to my little Ava! I love dogs and have had a pet dog my entire life! Right now, my dog is a bull mastiff/border collie cross (what a mixture!) named Butch (for Butch Cassidy, remember my last name?). Butch is a big part of my life now that my only son has moved out and gotten married. Of course, my grandaughter is, too! Butch is now 10.5 yrs old and he’s suffering from arthritis, but I still walk him regularly every single day. He’s a big dog, weighing in at 100+ pounds. He’s a great companion and sometimes a pain-in-the-butt, lol! I graduated from Penn State University in 1978, majoring in Criminology/Psychology. Right now I am on disability and not working at all, but I plan to pursue some part-time, at-home work very soon, most likely something that utilizes my computer(s) and a connection to the internet. I don’t have my own web-site (yet!) but my link to my Google profile and I have a little blog at wwwsmc.blogspot.com, which is kind of corny because all I have really done with it is written some random thoughts. One of these days I plan to expand my little blog into more!

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

My husband invited me to Google+

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

Google+ came along just as I was developing a dislike for Facebook.com. Although, many businesses have Facebook pages, I was reluctant to create them for my business and for my book because it lacked the polish and brains I have been looking for. Google+ appears to meet this demand.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

Were it not for the internet I wouldn’t have a career at the moment. I am an online instructor, a freelance writer, I write a blog, I have an online consulting business, and I just published a book on Amazon.com. Also, I am the proud member of the CR-48 pilot group.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

If Google+ were an academic woman, Facebook would be the bimbo in front of her. (ED. – This IS *BRILLIANT*.)

Where can I find more information about this fabulous woman?

Recently, I have given up my career as a high school English Teacher to raise my infant daughter. Although, I am still an online instructor for the University of Phoenix, I am using my extended maternity leave as my big opportunity to focus on building my writing career from freelance into something more.

I am the author of the book, Pregnancy For The Skeptical Women which is self published thanks to Amazon.com and Kindle.

I maintain a blog, The Skeptical Woman where I grapple with new motherhood, being a step parent, growing up in a blended family, and the overall distaste that my childhood left me.

Finally, I am the founder of Nest Smart Consulting, offering nesting services and new parent support.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

I was (still am) a Cr-48 Test Pilot and got an invite to Google+ on the first day.

What benefits are you seeing in being in Google+?

So many benefits! It’s great to be connected with so many like-minded people, the posts I am seeing and sharing are informative, Google+ is so easy to use . . . the list goes on and on.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

I work in publishing and have to connect with people all over the world. Hangouts will be particularly helpful in this.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

I would like to write a piece on Hangouts, and how they can be used for business as well as social purposes.
