How did you originally get invited to Google+?

I was invited by a friend.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I love Google+ so far. People in my circles are creating/sharing links to interesting content, and I see a lot of smart commentary and discussion going on.

Of course, my favorite aspect of G+ is how simple and intuitive it is to use Circles. I often feel that I’m not being “real” on Facebook, since I have been friended by a lot of work contacts there and find myself self-censoring heavily. Of course, I know *how* to use Lists to control who has access to my content, but on FB, it takes several steps to change the privacy setting so that only certain people can see a post/photo/etc. G+ makes it easy; they *encourage* you to be thoughtful about what you share with whom, and I appreciate that.

A third benefit of G+ is its nearly seamless integration with Picasa. Love that!

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

As a web developer and specialist in online marketing and media, it’s important for me to be on top of what’s going on on the web. I also find that I’m learning a lot from interactions with others in my field who use G+ (see my comments in the last question). Since G+ doesn’t limit the length of a post/status update, people can expand on whatever they’re talking about. I also feel that G+ isn’t saturated with the random crap you see on Facebook; fewer things get lost in the shuffle. I also find it’s working better as a networking tool than LinkedIn. I’m making connections with new people in my field.

In my personal life, once again, I love being able to have more in-depth conversations with my friends on G+, and as above, I notice that I don’t miss things as often as I do on Facebook (or Twitter, for that matter).

Not yet, but I’m sure I will.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

From a friend who also happens to be a lady.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I love the simplicity, the instant gratification, the constant stream of media, news, comments, engagement all right there! I love the way I can interact with everyone at a level I am comfortable with, a level that corresponds to their interests and also my relationship with them. The audience amplification of Google+ is so much faster and more rewarding than Twitter or Facebook.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

I am a web designer who handles social media accounts for my clients. I grew up in Redmond Washington (home of Microsoft) and have been involved in technology and web development since the mid 1990′s. Google+ is my favorite social media platform, hands down and I am excited to see it grow from the ground up.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

I have over 2,135 followers already and it is steadily increasing! I love Google+ Hangouts which is surprising because I am normally too self conscious to be seen on webcam. There is something about being in a group of people displayed in smaller boxes all over your screen which makes it like a party.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

Amanda Blain (of GirlfriendSocial.com) who I met through Empire Avenue invited me to the Google + project on the day it was opened in closed beta (June 29th).

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I’ve found Google+ a truly simple way to find and share with new people from all over the world! One thing I’ve noticed, is that my reach has definitely expanded to more people who are actually listening to things I have to say, rather than feeling like it’s just going into cyberspace with no reaction. I am hearing others say this is true for them, as well. Just putting yourself “out there” is really liberating, but the fact that you can narrow/filter your audience easilyódepending on the content to shareómakes it all the more wonderful. I’m already seeing the benefits of reading and commenting on what others have to say, and sharing with themóthere is even almost a constant stream of valuable discussion, in many cases.

Hangouts are definitely also a plus. I’ve participated in several already, just in the two weeks I’ve been part of G+, and have felt an almost instant camaraderie with those I’ve met through this very unique group video chat. As an active participant in other groups and networks in places such as Facebook and LinkedIn, I’ve found Hangouts to be very valuable, in that I can speak face-to-face to many with whom I’ve only been able to communicate through e-mail or message boards, previously.

I can’t wait until the network opens up to allowing brand and business profiles. If it’s anything as awesome as it’s been for individuals so far, I suspect we’ll have some wonderful things in store from Google+.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

I have a confession to make on that! Ever since I’ve started being active in the network, I’ve not gotten much else done…including getting enough sleep. I’m working on that, though! In the meantime, I’m certain that the ROI (return on insomnia) is already benefiting me because of the type and quality of people I’m able to connect with, and much more easily here than elsewhere, in my experience.

I have a strong lack of discipline and tend to have addictive behavior when it comes to things I love, so one thing I’ve done to help avoid spending overtime on G+ (so I can focus on work and get things done) is install a couple of Google Chrome browser extensions which do things such as hide the notifications button on all Google websites except for when I’m actually spending time at the actual website.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

If you are in a hangout with me and do something particularly silly or stupid…beware! I have a trigger-happy finger near the “Print Screen” key on my keyboard and have been known to capture several friends! It’s all in fun though, and pretty harmless.

Where can I find more information about this fabulous woman?

Web geek, lover of almost all things tech and social network-related, Bobbi Jo lives and works in a suburb of Saint Paul, Minnesota, as Principal & Chief Designer at B. Woods Design (web solutions for business) founded in 2002, BWoodsDesign.com.

In her spare time, she volunteers in her community, enjoys all kinds of music, harmless flirting with the male of the species (namely geeks and the extremely smart & funny variety), walking, cooking, reading, and cocktails with friends. Bobbi Jo is also still slightly addicted to a few games on Facebook (no, not FarmVille!), so she cannot justify leaving, just yet.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

lets just say i have some pretty nerdy friends, some that live within a stone’s throw from the google office. so i was lucky enough to get an g+ invite on day two.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

inlike some, i actually already have a good chunk of my friends who’ve gotten g+ invites. so i’m seeing a great place to connect with new and old friends from different circles (pun intended) in my life. it probably helps that i’m friends with lots of nerds that are also early adapters in tech. :)

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

i will admit, i’m drawn to connecting to others via video more so than with text/writing. so the video “hangout’s” have quickly become my favorite way of chatting with friends. i can see this feature also become very handy for staff meetings or training sessions, as the interface is easy to follow for the “non-techy” person.

Where can I find more information about this fabulous woman?

i’m a self employed graphic designer, web developer, photographer (etc.) who uses the social internet in almost every aspect of my professional and personal life. i’m also a drummer, a proud milwaukeean, music lover, cat owner, adopted, new gardener and i would much rather play sports than watch them.
