Daria Musk – New Music Album on Google+

One of my long time passions has been music. When I started podcasting in 2004 I was exposed for the very first time to independent music and fell in love. Artists like Matthew Ebel, Lee Coulter, and Anji Bee helped not only shape the space but redefine what music meant to me. Later Matt and Anji would become ‘real’ friends of mine and I did even get to meet Lee once! Their music was unexpected, truthful and accessible. They created music from their soul and shared it with the rest of us for the love of it. They also recognized that the platform of ‘new media’ expanded their audience, their reach, and (hopefully) their income from their art. Nearly seven years later they are still some of my very favorite artists that I listen to daily.Daria Musk L+VE

Daria Musk makes me feel the way I did when I first discovered indie music. A pure voice, heartfelt lyrics, and beautiful arrangements filled with uncompromising emotion unsullied for ‘mass media’ use. I first found Daria on Google+ (of course) and she quickly became the darling of the music scene there – for very good reason.

I’m happy to let you know that she’s released her first Google+ Hangout album containing recordings from several live video chats she performed in to people across the planet. I’m humbled to admit that Daria had asked her fans on Google+ for suggestions for an album name and she took my suggestion of L+VE. It could stand for ‘love’ or ‘live’ – both of which represent her perfectly! Daria also wrote a song during a live Google+ Hangout called “+1 Me” that she’s put up for the video for if you are looking to check out what an amazing woman can create on the fly!

To purchase Daria’s albums visit Android Market, iTunes, listen to it streaming on Google Music, or visit her website, thanks.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

My husband is the chief architect on the project at Google, so I jumped into Google+ the moment it opened.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I love the conversations! On Google+ I feel much more encouraged to share interesting links, have in-depth conversations, and interact with fascinating people, some of whom I’ve met through the service. I also like the built-in capability to control both my consumer and creator experiences: that I can share with whomever I want and that I can read content from whomever I want–and that doesn’t even have to remain the same from day to day.

It’s great that I can post “mini” blog posts on Google+: short thoughts that aren’t necessarily long enough or thematically appropriate for my blog, but that I enjoy being able to share to start a conversation.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

From a professional perspective, Google+ fits into my life particularly well. As a writer, it’s important for me to reach my audience, but with Google+ I am also able to communicate on a different level with personal friends. I really enjoy curating content that ranges from my own professional announcements and essays to sharing interesting articles that I can then discuss with people.

Some of my writer friends and I have also begun scheduling regular writing hang outs in which we write for 45 minutes and then talk for 15 minutes, sometimes about our work and sometimes just to take a break. So far I’m finding that these hang outs are really helping my productivity and motivation, plus I’m getting some much-needed social time. So it’s a win-win all around.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

I think Google+ can be as enriching an experience as the users make it. The more thought we put into creating and sharing useful, interesting, and entertaining content, the more everyone will enjoy interacting on the site.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

I was invited to Google+ through an ex-boss on Facebook.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I love Google+ because it allows me to keep organized. Like most women, I fancy myself to be multi-faceted, and Google+ lets me separate all of the different facets in a streamlined manner. Thanks to Circles, I am able to read what interests me at a particular time instead of trying to wade through all the noise of places like Facebook and Twitter.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

As a photographer, I have “met” lots of other photographers from all over the world on Google+. Every day I see photos that inspire me and learn from all the varying techniques. I love that I can share things that only matter to certain people, instead of just blasting everyone with what I want to say. For instance, I share photos of local businesses with my hometown circle, reviews I write about beauty products with my lady circle, and thoughts on social media with my social media circle. I have become acquainted with people who do other things I’m interested in, like web developers, SEO experts, and other writers and reviewers. But G+ isn’t just about work for me; I can also talk with my friends, and I love that.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

I think that once the stigma is gone about Google+ being for nerds, more women will join. I don’t understand why there aren’t more women on here already; G+ seems to me like it was designed with women in mind. I love how easy it is to upload photos–drag and drop is so convenient! Women love to compartmentalize, and Google+ lets you do just that. I feel like it was made just for me, and hopefully more women will start to feel this way, too.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

I was invited by my 15 year old son, Santana. Luckily, I have had four social-media savvy teenagers that have led me through the labyrinth of online marketing and are a regular resource for me in emerging trends, marketing and new music talent.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I immediately began to see new faces in the entertainment industry, particularly musicians and photographers, that are a resource for my inspiration and who are keeping me motivated in my career. The Google+ community, so far, is intelligent, engaged and inquisitive. My type of people!

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

I regularly hop over to G+ to listen to music, watch videos, and drool over the photography. Since it’s much easier to find people and follow them through “circles”, I have the luxury now of expanded posts from industry professionals, and can get more than just a snapshot of what’s going on… I have found new blogs to follow in music, photography and poetry, and G+ has inspired me to be more active on my own photo/poetry blog as well. I also split my time between the USA and Brazil, and so having an international community on G+ helps me to bridge the gap in making contacts while I am abroad.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

How about a poem?! Inspired by new friends on G+…

It’s true
Music soothes and sways
And takes it all away
Like a gentle face
In a crowded place
When I can’t find my way.
