How did you originally get invited to Google+?

Like all good shiny object syndrome geeks, I was invited by fellow SOS sufferer, Shaine Mata. ;-)

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I like the clean interface. The simplicity in categorizing our connections. The energy and excitement that I haven’t seen since the early days of Twitter (2007). Although Hangouts made Facebook’s big video announcement a non-event, I am still working on feeling warm and fuzzy about it. Skype continues to be my premier client/partner project collaborative tool. I’m sure that will transition as I get more of my connections on G+. The mobile app with Huddles is a definite bonus.

The benefits with a limited release group of folks is the ability to connect quicker faster and with more meaning. Very much ala the early days of social media.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

As I continue to delve into G+ uses, my personal and business use of Twitter is decreasing. Which saddens me in that a universe where Twitter ceases to exist will leave a void. I know I’m not the only one who is using Twitter less because of Google+.

Google+ is allowing me a more focused and targeted approach to a social network. However, it also allows me more serendipitous moments because of the limited audience. I like it!

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

Google+ allows many of us with cluttered and busy Twitter/FB profiles to start off with a fresh slate. We can be mindful of how we connect and share with folks within our various circles.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

I was invited by the sister of a Googler.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I’m finding it easier to meet new, interesting people through their comments on my friends’ posts. It reminds me of the early days of Twitter when it was easy to discover like-minded friends of friends.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

Personally I’m having fun with it, especially sharing and viewing photos, since I’m a (very) fledgling photographer. As a web presence consultant I’m watching to see how it will be useful to the types of clients I work with, typically individuals and small businesses.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

I have a hint! Make a “Read Only” circle that includes all the people you really want to follow closely. It’s much easier than sifting through the main Stream or reading a bunch of different circles. Also- I hardly tweet anymore. Interesting.

Where can I find more information about this fabulous woman?

I’m self-employed as a web presence consultant and WordPress customizer at Pixel Currents, and previously I’ve been a volunteer community manager. I’m always on the hunt for a new challenge!

I co-host the podcast Push My Follow which focuses on social media, the latest memes, pretty much anything internet related that we feel like talking about (search for it on iTunes!)

I’ve blogged since 2003, and had a personal site since 1996. Currently I’m blogging at Just Another Distraction.

I’m mom to three awesome young men and I’ve been married for over a quarter of a century to an engineer/politician.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

I received an invite from a tech guy friend of mine on June 29.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

Unlike Facebook, I’m with people who I truly share similar interests with and this platform has allowed me to not only have deeper conversations with them, but has also introduced me to so many new people I know I would have never met on Facebook. I feel like Google+ is my real community.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

The circles are what’s really making Google+ extra special for me right now. Not only am I a single mother of two teen girls, but I’m also working towards a second graduate degree, starting a nonprofit, and changing my entire career path. I also love to workout and live by all things tech and with circles I am able to connect and converse with people who share the same interests and are experiencing similar life and career transitions such as myself. So, I find Google+ having the potential to also be a great life support system.
