What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

Having the different circles to focus and target communications is great for privacy and relevance. This is something that is much more tedious in Facebook, and you cannot completely accomplish in the same way. The power and centralization of a social network along with all of the other tools Google has to offer is something no business can argue with.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

As a social media strategist and trainer, first and foremost, I want to be sure I’ve taken the painstaking time to test and play with as much as I can in the social media landscape before advising clients on it. They can take advantage of my sick obsession to try to figure everything out and spend hours on the laptop without sleeping, so they don’t have to!

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

I find it fascinating how connections that might have gone stale on Facebook or LinkedIn are resurfacing. You know, when someone pops up as a suggestion and you think, “hmm, but it’s been so long, would it be weird? Ah, forget it…”

Well, that seems to have gone out the window with G+ because everyone is moving all their connections into circles regardless. I love how those people are popping up out of the blue and you can see that you’ve added each other. They may have added me to the circle “person I haven’t talked to in 15 years and still won’t” but I don’t know that. It’s a great excuse to trigger a new conversation with a long lost connection.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

A friend of mine who is a software engineer sent me an invite when I asked him for one. He was promoting the invites on Facebook.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I am able to interact with a much broader field of people, many of whom I don’t know and am just meeting. I am also able to say and post more things and target the audience that I want. I am also able to read so many more things online than I have ever been able to do before.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

In my life it fits well because I now have everything tied into my Google accounts. I have recently started using Google Docs and am thrilled with the convenience of it and the way it is organized. For my career, I am hoping to build a platform for my blog and the book I am writing. I am reading a lot on G+ from other writers with particular interest in women writers. They are very easy to find and interact on G+.

A particularly interesting story or thoughts you may want to add regarding Google+

Well, I’d like to think I always have some interesting stories! But specifically to G+ I think it’s going to take some time for all of us to see the magnitude of what it is and what it could become. I don’t think it’s for everyone as of today, but I think it will continue to grow. I still have my Facebook account and intend to keep it even though I’ve told my friends to come over to G+. Only two have and those two and I are having a blast!

I like the idea that I’m one of the first to be using it and I like the idea that I can watch it grow and expand. I think Google is taking what has been done before with previous and current social networks and is improving.

I run a consulting and training company. I started out as a part-time employee to make extra money to pay my bills and I am now an owner. I love my work, my employees and my clients and feel truly blessed and lucky to be where I am today.

As a hobby, I write. I recently started my own blog for short stories and advice. I’ve worked, as a volunteer, inside and outside of jails with particular attention to battered women. I have just started to pass my knowledge onto others via my blog:

This blog is always a work in progress, which might just be the correct way to describe my own life.

I am on my first draft of my first novel on the few moments I have when I come up for air.

How did you originally get invited to Google+?

I was originally invited by an IT employee for the City of Santa Rosa. He has his hand in everything so I was grateful to get an early invite.

What benefits are you seeing from being in Google+?

I find it beneficial to be on G+ because we are able to have robust, in depth conversations we can’t have on Twitter due to space constraints and because Facebook is full of bored people and advertisers. I am stimulated with new ideas more on G+ than any other SM tool right now. Also, the advantages G+ will have being tied to all the other great Google Apps will be exciting to see.

How does Google+ fit into your life or career?

G+ is now part of my “check-in” strategy. I regularly check in on all my channels to see what’s happening, what’s new, who’s got something exciting to say. I’m more of an observer and I haven’t yet found my content stride on G+. I’m also watching and waiting to see how quickly changes take effect. I don’t want to set it in stone yet as it is still an amoeba.
